To millions of Americans, Blue Cross and Blue Shield represents peace of mind when it's needed the most. That's because the Blue Cross and Blue Shield names and symbols represent the nation's largest and most experienced health care system. The Blue Cross and Blue Shield organization is not one single company, but rather a confederation of independent, community-based Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans. Collectively, Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans cover more than 93 million people — nearly one-third of all Americans — in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
Nearly 550,000 people carry a Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska I.D. card.
The Largest Provider Networks
The network of BluePreferred hospitals, physicians and other health care professionals is the largest in the state, including 100% of non-governmental acute care hospitals and 93% of physicians. The Rx Nebraska participating pharmacy network includes 55,468 pharmacies nationwide, with 448 located in Nebraska.
Coverage That Travels With You
Under the BlueCard Program, members and their covered dependents receive in-network benefits even when they're out of town by using hospitals, doctors and other health care providers who are part of the local Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plan's BlueCard PPO network. Members can also take advantage of the discount and claim filing agreements other Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans have negotiated with the contracting providers in their area.
In 2004, the BlueCard Program saved Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska customers nearly $216 million due to negotiated provider discounts.
